RE: Questions about quality, who makes the best frames, etc..

Please remember that most will advise that their choice in a rig is good (as I did earlier). I had a second choice of KZ. I'm not saying that Keystone has a bad product. I just said that there was something that concerned me. It could be a very good product. I looked at them and made my decision. You will have to make yours.

RE: Questions about quality, who makes the best frames, etc..

Before we bought our JayFeather, we looked at Keystone. I found that they were not very well made in the attention to detail area. I know some may think I'm too picky, but when I see a water line to the commode out in the open I wonder what other shortcuts have been made that I can't see. I know Jayco may be more expensive, but I want my purchase to last a long time.
Others will have a different opinion and I respect their opinion. This is mine.

RE: preparing TT for possible hurricane

I live about 50 miles from the North Carolina coast. I'm looking at what to do if a hurricane should come our way. We are members of Thousand Trails and there is a preserve near Charlotte. We intend to secure our home and hit the trail west. Since I work on the internet I will be able to do what I need while I'm away from home. When it's safe to come back, we will park our TT in the front yard (that's where the sewer clean out is located) and live in it and run off of the Champion 3500/4000 generator until power is restored. The most that has taken in the past was 4 days. There is a gas station 1 block away that has one of their pumps that works under generator power. I also have a BIG contractor 5550 watt generator to power our refrigerator in the house.
I would suggest that the poster head north to somewhere near Memphis or northern Mississippi. With a 2nd hurricane brewing that may come up the east coast I would not head east in Tennessee, but east into Alabama may work.
My prayers are with you.

RE: Alignment/Tire Balancing/Flat Spots

Is this on your TV or your TT? I have the wheels balanced on my TT for the same reasons you have them balanced on a TV. They reduce the ware on the components and ease the issues on the rest of the RV. Balancing can remove many issues on a Trailer and a Tow Vehicle/Motorhome.

RE: best camping memories

Camping with my mom, dad and a friend on the Colorado River near Parker AZ. We went there many times over the late 50's and early 60's. We even found some girls to get to know while we were there.

RE: Hnda Generator, why do I need the Quiet Inverter model

If you don't use the super quiet generator you will have the "generator police" after you. When you take out something that is not an inverter generator, they will say it's too loud (before you have started it). As others have said, if you camp near others and can afford it, get the Honda or Yamaha. Otherwise, get what you want.

RE: Internet Air Card

I have the Sierra Wireless 881-U and was told that the best communications manager is from Sierra Wireless and is called 3G Watcher. It's a free download and it seems to work better. It doesn't also manage Wi_Fi as the AT&T Mgr does, but it seems to work better for the AirCard.

RE: Opinions on Salem 31QBSS by Forest River

The OP seems to still be using the "Dry Weight" in figuring what he can tow. The GVWR of the TT is what should be used. For the Salem it's 10200 and not 6200. If your TV has a 13650 Max combined weight you only have 3400 for the TV and I'm sure that you want to carry your family. You need to look way lower than you are looking.

RE: Opinions on Salem 31QBSS by Forest River

Over time you will find that you want to take more and more with you. It can cause you a problem. The salesmen either don't know or don't care about the weight you should be towing. Also, you can invalidate any warranty on your TV.
Being close to your max tow rating for your TV can cause you problems when towing on just small hills. Just imagine what it would do on a really BIG hill?
Good luck in your search.

RE: Opinions on Salem 31QBSS by Forest River

You don't mention the Gross Vehicle Weight Rating (GVWR) of the TT. According to the website it's 10200 pounds. It will be over your Tow Vehicle's ability to pull safely. You either need to get another TV or another TT. The only time the trailer will be at it's dry weight is when it comes off the assembly line and then it may have options that add to the weight. I would think that an ultra-lite would be in your weight range.

RE: Arrgh!!! Jayco Needs Warrantee Work

I agree with you, Jayco is great about warranty repairs. We had both axles replaced plus 4 tiers and the only delay was for Jayco to make sure that that would fix the problem.
If you can't effect the outcome of the repairs, don't worry. It will only make you sick. Just check it out as best as you can before accepting the repair.

RE: It's the wannabe RV'er here again...

I lean toward the Jayco JayFeather (Ultra-Lite), but then I do own one. You would have to go to the smaller in that line (25F) to get under 7000 lbs. The 25F in a nice rig. At one point we considered it, but it didn't have enough space for us. You do need to look at the Max Tow Weight that your TV will do and use that. I assume that you did this, but I just wanted to make sure.

RE: Info wanted on Rear Kitchen in TT

We have a rear kitchen. The only problem that I can see would be if the mfgr. didn't get the balance right and it made the unit hitch heavy. We don't have that issue with our JayFeather.

RE: Value of Enclosed/Heated underbelly

The enclosed underbelly will, also, make the airflow under the TT smoother. In other words, less drag and better fuel millage. You have to decide if it's worth it.

RE: two newB questions

Congratulations on your new rig.
1) I would put a big transmission cooler on your TV. I would only use 4x4 mode when you need it. Most of the time you won't. 2) You should NEVER have any lining thing in the TT when you are moving. It's not legal in any state that I know of. It's also not smart. The movie "The Long Long Trailer" (Lucy and Desi) shows a comedy version that is based in truth. It's worse than driving without a seatbelt.
